Lambda Cyhalothrin 5% EC:

Lambda Cyhalothrin 5% EC is a potent, broad-spectrum synthetic pyrethroid insecticide formulated as an Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC). It is designed to control a wide array of chewing and sucking pests in various agricultural crops. It acts as a contact and stomach poison, delivering a rapid "knockdown" effect to pests upon exposure. Additionally, it possesses significant repellent properties, deterring pests from feeding on treated plants. Its EC formulation ensures it mixes readily with water, providing uniform coverage and effective penetration.

Mode of Action:

Lambda Cyhalothrin 5% EC functions primarily through contact and stomach action.

  1. Sodium Channel Modulation: It targets the insect's nervous system by disrupting the function of sodium channels in the nerve cell membranes.

  2. Nerve Disruption: This disruption prevents the closing of sodium channels, causing continuous and uncontrolled nerve impulse transmission.

  3. Paralysis: The resulting hyperexcitation leads to tremors, paralysis, and the eventual death of the insect. Its repellent action also discourages pests from laying eggs or feeding on the crop.

Primary Uses and Target Crops:

This insecticide is extensively used in field crops, vegetables, and fruits to manage bollworms, borers, and sucking pests.

Key target crops include:

  • Fiber Crops: Cotton

  • Cereals: Rice (Paddy)

  • Vegetables: Brinjal (Eggplant), Tomato, Chili, Okra (Bhindi), Cauliflower

  • Fruits: Mango, Citrus

  • Legumes: Pigeon Pea, Chickpea

Application and Dosage:

Lambda Cyhalothrin 5% EC is mixed with water and applied as a foliar spray.

The recommended dosage varies by crop and pest pressure:

  • Cotton: To control Bollworms (American, Pink, Spotted), Jassids, and Thrips, use 200 to 300 ml per acre.

  • Rice (Paddy): For Stem Borer, Leaf Folder, and Green Leaf Hopper (GLH), use 200 to 250 ml per acre.

  • Brinjal/Tomato: To control Shoot and Fruit Borer, use 150 to 200 ml per acre.

  • Chili: For Thrips and Fruit Borers, use 200 ml per acre.

  • Mango: For Mango Hoppers, use 1 ml to 1.5 ml per liter of water.

  • General Mixing Rate: A common mixing rate is 1 ml to 1.5 ml per liter of water. Ensure thorough coverage of the plant canopy.

Target Pests:

This insecticide is effective against a broad spectrum of pests, particularly Lepidoptera and Hemiptera.

Commonly controlled pests include:

  • Bollworms (American, Spotted, Pink)

  • Stem Borers

  • Leaf Folders

  • Shoot and Fruit Borers

  • Jassids

  • Thrips

  • Mango Hoppers

  • Semiloopers

  • Leaf Miners

Safety Precautions:

Strict adherence to safety precautions is essential. This product is toxic to bees and aquatic life.

Key safety recommendations include:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear protective clothing, rubber gloves, boots, goggles, and a face mask during mixing and spraying. Avoid direct skin contact, as pyrethroids can cause a temporary itching or burning sensation.

  • Bee Safety: Do not apply when honeybees are actively foraging (during flowering), as it is toxic to pollinators.

  • Handling Practices: Do not eat, drink, or smoke when using the product. Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after use.

  • Environmental Safety: This product is highly toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. Do not apply directly to water bodies or clean equipment near streams or ponds.

Storage:

Store the product in its original container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, moisture, food, and animal feed. Keep out of reach of children and uninformed persons.
