Chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC:
Chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC is a revolutionary, broad-spectrum insecticide belonging to the anthranilic diamide class, formulated as a Suspension Concentrate (SC). It is widely recognized for its novel mode of action and exceptional efficacy against lepidopteran pests (caterpillars and borers) in a variety of crops. It provides long-lasting protection due to its excellent residual activity and resistance to rain wash-off. It is also known for having a favorable safety profile for beneficial insects, making it suitable for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs.
Mode of Action:
Chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC functions primarily through ingestion (stomach action) and contact.
Ryanodine Receptor Activation: It targets the insect's muscle system by binding to and activating ryanodine receptors.
Calcium Depletion: This activation triggers the uncontrolled release of stored calcium from the muscle cells (sarcoplasmic reticulum).
Muscle Paralysis: The depletion of calcium causes the insect's muscles to become paralyzed. The pest stops feeding within minutes of exposure, becomes lethargic, and dies within 1 to 3 days.
Ovi-Larvicidal Action: It is effective against both the eggs (ovicidal) and the larvae (larvicidal) of pests, breaking the life cycle at multiple stages.
Primary Uses and Target Crops:
This insecticide is a market leader for controlling chewing pests in cereals, pulses, vegetables, and commercial crops.
Key target crops include:
Cereals: Rice (Paddy), Maize
Commercial Crops: Sugarcane, Cotton, Soybean
Vegetables: Tomato, Brinjal (Eggplant), Cabbage, Cauliflower, Chili, Okra
Pulses: Bengal Gram, Black Gram, Pigeon Pea
Application and Dosage:
Chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC is mixed with water and applied as a foliar spray. Due to its high concentration, the dosage requirement is very low.
The recommended dosage varies by crop:
Rice (Paddy): To control Yellow Stem Borer and Leaf Folder, use 60 ml per acre.
Sugarcane: For Early Shoot Borer and Top Borer, use 150 ml per acre.
Cotton: To control American Bollworm and Spotted Bollworm, use 60 ml per acre.
Vegetables (Tomato/Brinjal/Cabbage): For Fruit Borers and Diamondback Moth (DBM), use 60 ml per acre.
Soybean: For Green Semilooper and Girdle Beetle, use 60 ml per acre.
General Mixing Rate: A common dilution rate is 0.3 ml to 0.4 ml per liter of water. Ensure thorough coverage of the foliage.
Target Pests:
This insecticide is highly specialized for the control of caterpillars and borers (Lepidoptera).
Commonly controlled pests include:
Stem Borers (Rice, Maize, Sugarcane)
Leaf Folders (Rice)
Bollworms (American, Spotted, Tobacco)
Diamondback Moth (DBM)
Fruit and Shoot Borers
Pod Borers (Helicoverpa, Maruca)
Semiloopers
Girdle Beetle
Safety Precautions:
Strict adherence to safety precautions is essential. While it is relatively safe for mammals and beneficials, standard chemical safety practices apply.
Key safety recommendations include:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear protective clothing, gloves, and a face mask during mixing and spraying.
Avoid Contact: Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Wash splashes immediately with soap and water.
Handling Practices: Do not eat, drink, or smoke when using the product. Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly after use.
Environmental Safety: This product is toxic to aquatic invertebrates. Do not apply directly to water bodies or clean equipment near streams or ponds.
Storage:
