Imidacloprid 0.3% GR:
Imidacloprid 0.3% GR is a systemic insecticide belonging to the neonicotinoid chemical class, formulated as Granules (GR). It is specifically designed for soil application to provide long-lasting control against a wide range of sucking and boring pests. Its granular form makes it easy to broadcast in fields, where it is absorbed by the plant roots and translocated throughout the stem and leaves. It is particularly effective in Rice (Paddy) and Sugarcane crops for managing pests that are difficult to control with foliar sprays alone.
Mode of Action:
Imidacloprid 0.3% GR functions through systemic, contact, and stomach action.
Nerve Receptor Agonist: It acts as an agonist to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) in the insect's central nervous system.
Systemic Absorption: When applied to the soil, the active ingredient is released from the granules and rapidly absorbed by the plant's root system. It is then transported up the plant via the xylem (acropetal movement).
Paralysis: By mimicking the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, it causes continuous excitation and overstimulation of the insect's nerve cells. This leads to paralysis, cessation of feeding, and eventually the death of the pest.
Primary Uses and Target Crops:
This granular insecticide is primarily used in field crops to control stem borers and sucking pests.Key target crops include:
Rice (Paddy)
Sugarcane
Cotton
Wheat
Application and Dosage:
Imidacloprid 0.3% GR is applied directly to the soil by broadcasting. It can be applied alone or mixed with fertilizers (like Urea) or sand for uniform distribution.
The recommended dosage varies by crop:
Rice (Paddy): To control Stem Borer, Brown Plant Hopper (BPH), and Leaf Folder, use 4 kg to 6 kg per acre.
Timing: Apply 15–30 days after transplanting in standing water (2–3 cm deep) for best results.
Sugarcane: For Termites and Early Shoot Borer, use 6 kg to 8 kg per acre.
Method: Apply near the root zone during the early vegetative stage or at the time of earthing up.
General Application: Broadcast the granules uniformly over the field. Ensure there is adequate soil moisture at the time of application to facilitate the release and uptake of the active ingredient.
Target Pests:
This insecticide is effective against a broad spectrum of soil-dwelling and plant-sucking pests.
Commonly controlled pests include:
Yellow Stem Borer (Paddy)
Brown Plant Hopper (BPH)
White-backed Plant Hopper (WBPH)
Rice Leaf Folder
Termites (Sugarcane/Wheat)
Aphids
Jassids
Thrips
Whiteflies
Safety Precautions:
Strict adherence to safety precautions is essential. The product is toxic to bees and aquatic organisms.
Key safety recommendations include:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear protective clothing, rubber gloves, boots, and a face mask during application to prevent skin contact and inhalation.
Bee Safety: Although it is a granular formulation (less drift), systemic residues can affect pollinators. Avoid application if bees are actively foraging in the area.
Handling Practices: Do not eat, drink, or smoke when using the product. Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after use.
Environmental Safety: This product is toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. Do not use in areas where aquaculture is practiced or allow runoff into fish ponds.
Storage:
Store the product in its original container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, moisture, food, and animal feed. Keep out of reach of children and uninformed persons.
