Bifenthrin 10% EC w/w:

Bifenthrin 10% EC w/w is a broad-spectrum insecticide and acaricide with an Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC) formulation. As a synthetic pyrethroid, it is recognized for its rapid knockdown of pests and long-lasting residual effect. It is widely used in both agricultural and horticultural settings to control a variety of chewing and sucking insect pests.

Mode of Action

Bifenthrin 10% EC acts as a contact and stomach poison. It targets the nervous system of insects by interfering with the gating of sodium channels. This disruption leads to paralysis and ultimately the death of the pest. The formulation is designed to be effective upon either direct contact with the pest or ingestion of treated plant material.

Primary Uses and Target Crops:

This versatile insecticide is used to protect a wide range of crops from damaging pests.

Key target crops include:

  • Cotton

  • Rice

  • Sugarcane

  • Fruits (e.g., apples, citrus, mangoes)

  • Vegetables (e.g., tomatoes, peppers)

  • Maize and Soybeans

It is also effective for termite control in both agricultural contexts, like sugarcane, and in pre- and post-construction treatments.

Application and Dosage:

Bifenthrin 10% EC is typically applied as a foliar spray or a soil drench, depending on the target pest. For optimal results, application should occur during the early morning or late afternoon when temperatures are cooler.

The recommended dosage varies by crop and pest intensity:

  • Cotton: To control bollworms and whiteflies, a dosage of 320 ml per acre is recommended.

  • Rice: For stem borer, leaf folder, and green leaf hopper, the suggested dosage is 200 ml per acre.

  • Sugarcane: For termite control, 400 ml per acre should be applied.

  • General Foliar Application: A common recommendation is 20-25 ml per 15 liters of water.

Target Pests:

Bifenthrin 10% EC is effective against a broad spectrum of pests, including both chewing and sucking insects.

Commonly controlled pests include:

  • Bollworms

  • Whiteflies

  • Leafhoppers and Jassids

  • Stem borers and Leaf folders

  • Aphids

  • Mites

  • Termites

Safety Precautions:

As with all agrochemicals, proper handling and safety measures are crucial. Bifenthrin can be harmful if swallowed and may cause skin irritation.

Key safety recommendations include:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear protective clothing, chemical-resistant gloves, and eye protection (goggles or a face shield) during handling and application.

  • Avoid Inhalation: Prevent breathing in the spray mist.

  • Avoid Contact: Do not allow the product to come into contact with skin or eyes. In case of contact, wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water.

  • Handling Practices: Do not eat, drink, or smoke when using the product. Wash hands and face thoroughly after handling.

Storage:

Store Bifenthrin 10% EC in its original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. It should be kept away from children, pets, food, and animal feed.

In case of poisoning, seek medical attention immediately. Treatment is symptomatic as there is no specific antidote. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting and rinse the mouth with water.
