Mancozeb 75% WP:

Mancozeb 75% WP is a broad-spectrum, contact fungicide formulated as a Wettable Powder (WP). It belongs to the dithiocarbamate group and contains both Zinc and Manganese. It is widely recognized as a powerful preventive fungicide that forms a protective layer on plant surfaces, preventing fungal spores from germinating. Due to its multi-site action, it is highly effective in managing resistance and is often used in rotation with systemic fungicides for comprehensive disease management.

Mode of Action:

Mancozeb 75% WP functions primarily as a contact and protective fungicide.

  1. Multi-Site Inhibitor: It acts on multiple sites within the fungal cell, inhibiting enzyme activity and disrupting various metabolic processes such as respiration and energy production (ATP synthesis).

  2. Spore Germination Inhibition: By disrupting these essential processes, it effectively prevents the germination of fungal spores and the growth of the germ tube, thereby stopping the infection before it starts. Because it targets multiple sites, the risk of pathogens developing resistance is very low.

Primary Uses and Target Crops:

This fungicide is used extensively to protect field crops, fruits, and vegetables from a wide array of fungal diseases.

Key target crops include:

  • Field Crops: Rice (Paddy), Wheat, Maize, Groundnut, Cotton, Potato

  • Vegetables: Tomato, Chili, Brinjal/Eggplant, Onion, Cauliflower

  • Fruits: Apple, Banana, Grapes, Guava, Mango, Citrus

  • Flowers & Ornamentals: Roses, Marigolds

Application and Dosage:

Mancozeb 75% WP is mixed with water and applied as a foliar spray. It can also be used for seed treatment.

The recommended dosage varies depending on the crop and disease pressure:

  • General Foliar Spray: To control diseases like Early/Late Blight, Leaf Spot, and Rust, use 600 to 800 grams per acre.

  • Apple: For Scab control, a dosage of 30 grams per tree (or approx. 3g per liter of water) is common.

  • Seed Treatment: Mix 3 grams per kg of seeds to control seed-borne and soil-borne diseases.

  • General Mixing Rate: A common mixing rate is 2 to 2.5 grams per liter of water. Ensure the powder is thoroughly dispersed in water before spraying. Application should be repeated at 7–10 day intervals depending on weather conditions and disease severity.

Target Diseases:

This fungicide is effective against a broad spectrum of fungal pathogens.

Commonly controlled diseases include:

  • Early and Late Blight (Potato, Tomato)

  • Leaf Spot (Tikka, Cercospora, Alternaria)

  • Blast (Paddy)

  • Rust (Wheat, Groundnut)

  • Downy Mildew (Grapes, Maize, Cucurbits)

  • Anthracnose

  • Scab (Apple)

  • Sigatoka Leaf Spot (Banana)

  • Fruit Rot
