Cartap Hydrochloride 4% GR:

Cartap Hydrochloride 4% GR is a systemic insecticide formulated as Granules (GR). It belongs to the Nereistoxin analogue chemical group and is specifically designed for ease of application through soil broadcasting. This formulation is highly effective against chewing, sucking, and boring pests, particularly in Rice (Paddy) and Sugarcane crops. Its strong systemic action allows the active ingredient to be absorbed by the roots and translocated to the stems and leaves, effectively targeting pests that hide inside the plant tissue where foliar sprays often cannot reach.

Mode of Action:

Cartap Hydrochloride 4% GR functions through systemic, stomach, and contact action.

  1. Nerve Blockage: It acts by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses at the synaptic junctions (specifically as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist).

  2. Systemic Protection: Upon application to the soil, the granules release the chemical which is rapidly absorbed by the plant roots. It travels up through the plant system (xylem), making the entire plant poisonous to the pest.

  3. Paralysis: When the insect feeds on the treated plant or comes into contact with the chemical, its nervous system is disrupted, leading to immediate paralysis, cessation of feeding, and death within a short period.

Primary Uses and Target Crops:

This granular insecticide is widely used in field crops where stem borers and leaf folders are a major issue.

Key target crops include:

  • Rice (Paddy)

  • Sugarcane

  • Vegetables (e.g., Potato, Cabbage, Tomato - specifically for soil-dwelling or boring pests)

Application and Dosage:

Cartap Hydrochloride 4% GR is applied directly to the soil by broadcasting. It is most effective when there is adequate moisture in the soil to release the active ingredient.

The recommended dosage varies by crop:

  • Rice (Paddy): To control Yellow Stem Borer, Leaf Folder, and Whorl Maggot, use 7.5 kg to 10 kg per acre. For best results, apply 15–30 days after transplanting in standing water (2–3 cm deep).

  • Sugarcane: For the control of Early Shoot Borer and Top Borer, use 10 kg to 12 kg per acre. Apply near the root zone during the early vegetative stage and follow up with light irrigation.

  • Method: Broadcast the granules uniformly over the field. In paddy fields, maintain standing water for 2-3 days after application to ensure maximum absorption by the roots.

Target Pests:

This insecticide is specialized for controlling pests that bore into stems or fold leaves.

Commonly controlled pests include:

  • Yellow Stem Borer (Rice)

  • Rice Leaf Folder

  • Whorl Maggot

  • Early Shoot Borer (Sugarcane)

  • Top Borer

  • Green Leaf Hopper (GLH)

Safety Precautions:

Strict adherence to safety precautions is essential. The product is harmful if swallowed or inhaled.

Key safety recommendations include:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear protective clothing, rubber gloves, boots, and a face mask during broadcasting to avoid skin contact and inhalation of dust.

  • Avoid Contact: Do not handle the granules with bare hands. Wash any splashes or dust from the skin immediately with soap and water.

  • Handling Practices: Do not eat, drink, or smoke when using the product. Wash hands and face thoroughly after application.

  • Environmental Safety: This product is toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. Do not use in areas where aquaculture is practiced or allow runoff into fish ponds.

Storage:

Store the product in its original container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, moisture, food, and animal feed. Keep out of reach of children and uninformed persons.
