Acetamiprid 20% SP:

Acetamiprid 20% SP is a highly effective, systemic insecticide belonging to the neonicotinoid chemical class, formulated as a Soluble Powder (SP). It is widely known for its exceptional control over sucking pests in a broad range of crops. Due to its translaminar activity (ability to penetrate leaf tissues) and strong systemic action, it effectively targets pests hiding on the underside of leaves. It is also recognized for having ovicidal, adulticidal, and larvicidal properties, providing control at various stages of the insect's life cycle.

Mode of Action:

Acetamiprid 20% SP functions through systemic, stomach, and contact action.

  1. Receptor Antagonist: It acts as an agonist to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) in the insect's central nervous system.

  2. Nerve Overstimulation: By binding to these receptors, it disrupts the proper signal transmission, causing continuous excitation and overstimulation of the nervous system.

  3. Paralysis: This eventually leads to paralysis, cessation of feeding, and the death of the pest. Its systemic nature ensures that the chemical is absorbed by the plant and distributed to all parts, protecting the crop from sap-feeding insects.

Primary Uses and Target Crops:

This insecticide is primarily used to manage sucking pests in fiber crops, vegetables, fruits, and plantation crops.

Key target crops include:

  • Fiber Crops: Cotton

  • Vegetables: Chili, Okra (Bhindi), Cabbage, Brinjal (Eggplant), Tomato

  • Cereals: Rice (Paddy)

  • Fruits: Citrus, Apple

  • Plantations: Tea

  • Others: Mustard, Pulses (Green Gram, Black Gram)

Application and Dosage:

Acetamiprid 20% SP is mixed with water and applied as a foliar spray.

The recommended dosage varies by crop and pest intensity:

  • Cotton: To control Aphids, Jassids, Thrips, and Whiteflies, use 40 to 60 grams per acre.

  • Chili & Okra: For Thrips, Aphids, and Whiteflies, use 40 to 60 grams per acre.

  • Rice (Paddy): To control Brown Plant Hopper (BPH), use 50 to 100 grams per acre.

  • Cabbage: For Aphid control, use 30 to 60 grams per acre.

  • Tea: For Mosquito Bug (Helopeltis), use 50 grams per acre.

  • General Application: A common mixing rate is 0.5 to 1 gram per liter of water. Dissolve the powder completely in a small amount of water before adding it to the main spray tank. Ensure thorough coverage of the foliage.

Target Pests:

This insecticide is specialized for the control of sucking insects (Hemiptera, Thysanoptera).

Commonly controlled pests include:

  • Aphids

  • Jassids

  • Whiteflies

  • Thrips

  • Brown Plant Hopper (BPH)

  • Leafhoppers

  • Mosquito Bug (Tea)

  • Citrus Psylla

Safety Precautions:

Strict adherence to safety precautions is essential. Acetamiprid is toxic to bees and aquatic organisms.

Key safety recommendations include:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear protective clothing, rubber gloves, boots, and a face mask/goggles during mixing and spraying to avoid skin contact and inhalation.

  • Bee Safety: Do not apply when honeybees are actively foraging. It is best to spray in the early morning or late evening.

  • Handling Practices: Do not eat, drink, or smoke when using the product. Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after use.

  • Environmental Safety: Do not contaminate water bodies, ponds, or irrigation ditches.

Storage:

Store the product in its original container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, moisture, food, and animal feed.[14] Keep out of reach of children and uninformed persons.
