Magnesium as (MG) 9.5% + Sulphur as (S) 12%:

Magnesium (Mg) 9.5% + Sulphur (S) 12% is a specialized secondary nutrient fertilizer designed to supply plants with essential magnesium and sulphur. This product is typically available in a crystalline, water-soluble form, making it highly efficient for correcting deficiencies and improving overall plant health and productivity. The most common chemical form for this combination is Magnesium Sulphate (MgSO₄), also known as Epsom salt.

Mode of Action:

As a fertilizer, this product provides two critical secondary nutrients that are fundamental to various plant metabolic and physiological processes.

  • Magnesium (Mg): Magnesium is the central atom of the chlorophyll molecule, the green pigment responsible for photosynthesis. Without sufficient magnesium, plants cannot capture sun energy to produce carbohydrates. It also acts as an activator for numerous enzymes involved in respiration, DNA and RNA synthesis, and helps in the translocation of sugars and starches within the plant.

  • Sulphur (S): Sulphur is an essential component of three key amino acids (cysteine, cystine, and methionine) that are the building blocks of proteins. It is also crucial for the formation of chlorophyll, the synthesis of oils (particularly in oilseed crops), and is a constituent of vitamins like biotin and thiamine. Sulphur contributes to the characteristic smell of crops like onions and mustard.

When applied, the soluble nutrients are readily absorbed by the plant's roots or leaves, quickly becoming available to correct deficiencies and support vital functions.

Primary Uses and Target Crops:

This fertilizer is used to prevent and correct magnesium and sulphur deficiencies, which often occur simultaneously, especially in sandy, acidic soils or in high-yield cropping systems with high nutrient demand.

Key target crops include:

  • Horticultural Crops: Tomatoes, Peppers, Potatoes, Cucumbers, and Onions.

  • Fruit Crops: Grapes, Bananas, Citrus, and Mangoes.

  • Field Crops: Cotton, Oilseeds (like Mustard and Soybean), Pulses, and Cereals.

  • Plantation Crops: Tea and Coffee.

It is particularly beneficial for crops that have a high demand for either magnesium (e.g., tomato, potato) or sulphur (e.g., oilseeds, onions).

Application and Dosage:

This product is highly versatile due to its excellent water solubility and can be applied through several methods.

  • Foliar Application: This method provides the quickest correction of deficiencies. A general recommendation is to dissolve 3 to 5 grams of the product per liter of water and spray thoroughly over the plant foliage.

  • Fertigation/Drip Irrigation: It is ideal for application through irrigation systems as it dissolves completely without clogging emitters. A typical rate is 5 to 10 kg per acre, applied in stages throughout the crop cycle.

  • Soil Application: It can be applied to the soil during land preparation or as a top dressing. The dosage depends on soil test results and crop requirements.

Symptoms of Deficiency:

  • Magnesium (Mg) Deficiency: Symptoms typically appear on older, lower leaves first. The classic sign is interveinal chlorosis, where the leaf turns yellow or pale between the green veins, sometimes creating a "marbled" or "Christmas tree" pattern. In severe cases, the leaf edges may curl, and reddish-purple spots can appear.

  • Sulphur (S) Deficiency: Symptoms often resemble nitrogen deficiency, with a uniform pale green or yellowish color (chlorosis). However, sulphur deficiency typically appears on the younger, upper leaves first because sulphur is less mobile within the plant than nitrogen.

Safety Precautions:

While it is a plant nutrient fertilizer and generally considered safe, standard handling practices are recommended.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wearing gloves and eye protection is advisable to prevent irritation from the dust or solution.

  • Handling: Avoid inhaling the dust. Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling the product. Wash hands thoroughly after use.

Storage:

Store the product in its original, sealed bag in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated location. Keep it away from moisture, direct sunlight, food, and animal feed.
