Metalaxyl 8% + Mancozeb 64% WP:

Metalaxyl 8% + Mancozeb 64% WP is a powerful, broad-spectrum, dual-action fungicide formulated as a Wettable Powder (WP). It combines the systemic curative action of Metalaxyl with the contact protective action of Mancozeb. This synergistic combination makes it highly effective against Oomycete fungi (water molds), providing superior control of diseases like Late Blight and Downy Mildew. It acts as both a curative and a preventive agent, ensuring protection from the inside out while preventing the development of resistance in fungal pathogens.

Mode of Action:

This product functions through a unique double mode of action:

  1. Systemic Action (Metalaxyl): The Metalaxyl component is rapidly absorbed by the leaves, stems, and roots. It translocates acropetally (upwards) within the plant to inhibit the synthesis of ribosomal RNA in the fungal cells. This stops the growth of the fungus inside the plant tissues and collapses existing infections (curative action).

  2. Contact Action (Mancozeb): The Mancozeb component stays on the leaf surface, acting as a protective shield. It is a multi-site inhibitor that prevents spore germination and penetration, stopping the disease before it enters the plant (preventive action).

Primary Uses and Target Crops:

This fungicide is specialized for the control of diseases caused by Oomycetes in vegetables, fruits, and plantation crops.

Key target crops include:

  • Vegetables: Potato, Tomato, Cucumber, Bitter Gourd, Melons

  • Fruits: Grapes, Citrus

  • Oilseeds: Mustard

  • Others: Tobacco, Black Pepper, Nursery plants

Application and Dosage:

Metalaxyl 8% + Mancozeb 64% WP is mixed with water and applied as a foliar spray. It is most effective when applied preventively or at the very early stages of disease appearance.

The recommended dosage varies depending on the crop and disease severity:

  • Potato & Tomato: To control Late Blight and Early Blight, use 500 to 600 grams per acre.

  • Grapes: For the control of Downy Mildew, use 1.5 to 2.5 grams per liter of water.

  • Mustard: To control White Rust and Alternaria Blight, use 500 to 600 grams per acre.

  • Tobacco: For Damping Off and Leaf Blight, use 500 grams per acre.

  • General Application: A common mixing rate is 2 to 2.5 grams per liter of water. Ensure the powder is thoroughly dissolved before spraying. Repeat applications at 10–14 day intervals depending on weather conditions.

Target Diseases:

This fungicide is the industry standard for controlling specific destructive fungal diseases.

Commonly controlled diseases include:

  • Late Blight (Potato, Tomato)

  • Downy Mildew (Grapes, Cucurbits, Vegetables)

  • White Rust (Mustard)

  • Damping Off (Tobacco/Vegetable nurseries)

  • Phytophthora Foot Rot (Black Pepper)

  • Leaf Spot and Blight

Safety Precautions:

Strict adherence to safety precautions is essential. The product is harmful if swallowed or inhaled.

Key safety recommendations include:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear protective clothing, chemical-resistant gloves, a face mask/respirator, and goggles during mixing and application.

  • Avoid Contact and Inhalation: Avoid breathing the dust or spray mist. Prevent contact with skin and eyes. Wash any splashes immediately with plenty of soap and water.
