Hexaconazole 5% SC:

Hexaconazole 5% SC is a highly effective, broad-spectrum systemic fungicide formulated as a Suspension Concentrate (SC). Belonging to the triazole chemical class, it provides triple-action protection: protective, curative, and eradicant. It is widely used to control a variety of fungal diseases, particularly Sheath Blight in Rice and Powdery Mildew in fruits and vegetables. Upon application, it is rapidly absorbed by the plant and translocated internally, ensuring long-lasting protection even against established infections. It is also known to induce a "phytotonic" effect, making leaves greener and hindering senescence (aging).

Mode of Action:

Hexaconazole 5% SC functions as an Ergosterol Biosynthesis Inhibitor (EBI).

  1. Cell Wall Disruption: It works by inhibiting the demethylation of steroids, which prevents the fungus from synthesizing ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane.

  2. Growth Inhibition: Without a functional cell membrane, the fungus cannot grow or reproduce. The hyphae collapse, and the pathogen dies.

  3. Systemic Movement: The fungicide is absorbed by the leaves and moves acropetally (upwards) in the xylem, protecting new growth from future attacks.

Primary Uses and Target Crops:

This fungicide is a staple for managing diseases in cereals, oilseeds, horticultural, and plantation crops.

Key target crops include:

  • Cereals: Rice (Paddy)

  • Oilseeds: Groundnut

  • Fruits: Mango, Grapes, Apple, Pomegranate

  • Vegetables: Chili, Okra, Cucumber

  • Plantations: Tea

Application and Dosage:

Hexaconazole 5% SC is mixed with water and applied as a foliar spray. It is effective when applied protectively or at the first sign of disease.

The recommended dosage varies by crop and disease:

  • Rice (Paddy): To control Sheath Blight and Sheath Rot, use 400 ml per acre.

  • Groundnut: For Tikka Leaf Spot and Rust, use 200 to 300 ml per acre.

  • Mango: To control Powdery Mildew, dissolve 1.5 to 2 ml per liter of water.

  • Apple: For Scab, use 1 ml per liter of water.

  • Grapes: For Powdery Mildew, use 1 to 2 ml per liter of water.

  • General Mixing Rate: A common mixing rate is 2 ml per liter of water. Shake the bottle well before use to ensure the suspension is uniform.

Target Diseases:

This fungicide is highly effective against Ascomycetes and Basidiomycetes fungi.

Commonly controlled diseases include:

  • Sheath Blight (Rice)

  • Powdery Mildew (Mango, Grapes, Vegetables)

  • Tikka Leaf Spot (Groundnut)

  • Rust (Groundnut, Soybean)

  • Scab (Apple)

  • Anthracnose

  • Blister Blight (Tea)

Safety Precautions:

Strict adherence to safety precautions is essential.

Key safety recommendations include:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear protective clothing, rubber gloves, boots, and a face mask/goggles during mixing and spraying.

  • Avoid Contact: Avoid inhalation of spray mist and contact with skin and eyes. Wash splashes immediately with soap and water.

  • Handling Practices: Do not eat, drink, or smoke when using the product. Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly after use.

  • Environmental Safety: This product is toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. Do not apply directly to water bodies or wash spray equipment in ponds/streams.
