IPA Salt of Glyphosate 54% SL:
IPA Salt of Glyphosate 54% SL is a non-selective, systemic, post-emergence herbicide. Its soluble liquid (S.L.) formulation is designed to control a wide range of annual and perennial weeds, including grasses, sedges, and broadleaf weeds. This herbicide is widely used in agriculture, non-crop areas, and for managing vegetation in various settings.
Mode of Action:
As a Group 9 herbicide, Glyphosate's primary mode of action is the inhibition of the EPSP synthase enzyme, which is crucial for the synthesis of aromatic amino acids essential for protein production and plant growth. The herbicide is absorbed through the foliage and translocated throughout the plant, including the root system, leading to a complete kill of the weed. Visible effects, such as wilting and yellowing, typically appear within 2 to 7 days for annual weeds and a week or more for perennial weeds.
Primary Uses and Target Crops:
Due to its non-selective nature, IPA Salt of Glyphosate 54% SL is used to clear fields before planting, in and around perennial crops and orchards, and in non-cropped areas. It is commonly used in the cultivation of glyphosate-tolerant crops.
Key applications include:
Pre-planting for field crops like soybean, maize, and cotton.
In perennial crops and orchards such as mango, citrus, tea, and coffee.
On non-cropped land like fallow areas, bunds, and industrial sites.
Application and Dosage:
This herbicide should be applied to the foliage of actively growing young weeds. Application should be uniform and complete, but not to the point of runoff. Rainfall within a few hours of application may reduce its effectiveness.
The general dosage is approximately 1.0 to 1.5 liters per acre, though this can vary depending on the type and density of the weeds. For foliar application, a common recommendation is 100 ml mixed in 15 liters of water.
Target Weeds:
IPA Salt of Glyphosate 54% SL is effective against a broad spectrum of weeds, including
Broadleaf Weeds: Parthenium hysterophorus (Carrot Grass), Amaranthus spp., Commelina spp.
Grassy Weeds: Cynodon dactylon (Bermuda Grass), Echinochloa spp. (Barnyard Grass), Dactyloctenium aegyptium (Crowfoot Grass).
Sedges: Cyperus spp.
Safety Precautions:
Proper handling and safety measures are crucial when using this product. It can be harmful if inhaled and may cause eye and skin irritation.
Key safety recommendations include:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear protective clothing, such as long-sleeved shirts, long pants, shoes with socks, and chemical-resistant gloves. Eye protection like goggles or a face shield is also recommended.
Avoid Inhalation: Do not breathe in the spray mist.
Avoid Contact: Prevent contact with skin and eyes. If contact occurs, wash the affected area immediately with soap and water.
Handling Practices: Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling the product. Wash hands thoroughly after use.
Storage:
Store the herbicide in its original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place. It should be kept away from food, animal feed, and out of reach of children. Do not store in galvanized or unlined steel containers as a chemical reaction can produce highly flammable hydrogen gas.
In case of poisoning, symptoms may include headache, nausea, giddiness, and vomiting. It is important to seek immediate medical attention. Treatment is symptomatic as there is no specific antidote.
