Ammonium Salt of Glyphosate 71% SG:
Ammonium Salt of Glyphosate 71% SG is a non-selective, systemic, post-emergence herbicide formulated as Soluble Granules (SG). It is designed to provide total control over a broad range of annual and perennial weeds, including deep-rooted and woody species. Because it is non-selective, it kills almost all green vegetation it contacts. This high-concentration granular formulation is highly soluble in water, ensuring rapid absorption by weed foliage and efficient translocation to the roots, resulting in the complete destruction of the weed from the inside out.
Mode of Action:
This herbicide functions through systemic action with no residual soil activity.
Enzyme Inhibition: It works by inhibiting the EPSP synthase enzyme, which is critical for the synthesis of essential aromatic amino acids needed for protein production in plants.
Translocation: Upon application to the foliage, the active ingredient is absorbed and translocated through the phloem to the root system, rhizomes, and stolons.
Weed Destruction: This systemic movement ensures that the entire plant, including the root system, is killed, preventing regrowth. Visible symptoms like yellowing and wilting typically appear within 7 to 14 days, followed by complete browning and death.
Primary Uses and Target Crops:
Since it is a non-selective herbicide, it must be used with care to avoid contact with desired crops. It is primarily used in plantation crops, orchards, and non-crop areas.
Key target areas include:
Plantations: Tea, Coffee, Rubber, Coconut
Orchards: Mango, Grapes, Citrus, Apple, Guava (carefully directed spray)
Non-Crop Areas: Industrial sites, railway tracks, roadsides, bunds, and irrigation channels
Forestry: For clearing unwanted vegetation
Zero-Tillage Farming: For land preparation before sowing
Application and Dosage:
Ammonium Salt of Glyphosate 71% SG is mixed with water and applied as a foliar spray. It is crucial to use a "Hood" or protective shield on the spray nozzle when applying near crops to prevent drift.
The recommended dosage varies by weed density and growth stage:
General Application: A common mixing rate is 6 to 7 grams per liter of water (approx. 100 grams per 15-liter pump).
Tea & Non-Crop Areas: For tough perennial weeds, a dosage of 1.2 to 1.5 kg per acre is recommended.
Method: Apply when weeds are actively growing and have sufficient green foliage for absorption. Avoid spraying if rain is expected within 4–6 hours. Use clean water that is free of mud or soil particles, as soil can deactivate the herbicide.
Target Weeds:
This herbicide is effective against a vast spectrum of difficult-to-control weeds.
Commonly controlled weeds include:
Grasses: Cynodon dactylon (Bermuda Grass), Imperata cylindrica (Cogon Grass), Axonopus compressus
Sedges: Cyperus rotundus (Nut Sedge/Motha)
Broadleaf Weeds: Parthenium hysterophorus, Commelina benghalensis, Chenopodium
Woody Shrubs: Lantana camara
Safety Precautions:
Strict adherence to safety precautions is essential. Glyphosate is a potent chemical and can damage any green plant it touches.
Key safety recommendations include:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear protective clothing, rubber gloves, boots, and eye protection during mixing and spraying to prevent skin and eye contact.
Avoid Drift: Use a spray shield/hood to prevent the spray mist from drifting onto desirable crops or plants, as this will cause severe damage or death to the crop.
Handling Practices: Do not eat, drink, or smoke when using the product. Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after use.
Environmental Safety: Do not contaminate water sources. Avoid applying near aquatic environments unless specifically instructed, as surfactants in the formulation can be toxic to aquatic life.
Storage:
Store the product in its original container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, moisture, food, and animal feed. Keep out of reach of children and uninformed persons.
