Clodinafop Propargyl 9% + Metribuzin 20% WP:
Clodinafop Propargyl 9% + Metribuzin 20% WP is a specialized, broad-spectrum herbicide formulated as a Wettable Powder (WP). It is a unique combination product designed specifically for wheat crops to provide a "one-shot" solution for complex weed problems. By combining two powerful active ingredients with different modes of action, it effectively controls both narrow-leaf (grassy) weeds and broad-leaf weeds simultaneously. It is particularly famous for its ability to control resistant biotypes of Phalaris minor (Gulli Danda) that have developed tolerance to single-molecule herbicides.
Mode of Action:
This herbicide employs a dual mode of action to ensure total weed destruction:
ACCase Inhibition (Clodinafop Propargyl): This component is absorbed by the leaves and shoots of grassy weeds. It inhibits the enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase), which is essential for lipid synthesis. This stops the production of fatty acids, destroying cell membranes and killing the grass.
Photosynthesis Inhibition (Metribuzin): This component is absorbed by both roots and leaves. It works by blocking the electron transport in Photosystem II, effectively shutting down the photosynthesis process. This causes the weed to starve of energy, turn yellow (chlorosis), and die.
Primary Uses and Target Crops:
This herbicide is exclusively recommended for use in Wheat to manage mixed weed populations.
Application and Dosage:
Clodinafop Propargyl 9% + Metribuzin 20% WP is applied as a post-emergence foliar spray.
Recommended Dosage: The standard dosage is 240 grams per acre.
Timing: Apply 30 to 35 days after sowing (DAS), or when the weeds are at the 2 to 4 leaf stage.
Method: Dissolve one 240gm pack in approximately 120–150 liters of water for one acre. It is often sold with a specific surfactant or "activator" which should be mixed as per the instructions to enhance efficacy. Use a Flat Fan or Flood Jet nozzle for uniform coverage.
Target Weeds:
This combination is effective against a wide variety of difficult weeds in wheat fields.
Commonly controlled weeds include:
Grassy Weeds: Phalaris minor (Canary Grass/Gulli Danda), Avena fatua (Wild Oat), Polypogon monspeliensis
Broadleaf Weeds: Chenopodium album (Bathua), Melilotus indica (Senji), Rumex spp. (Jangli Palak), Medicago denticulata, Anagallis arvensis, Vicia sativa
Safety Precautions:
Strict adherence to safety precautions is essential due to the potency of the two active ingredients.
Key safety recommendations include:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear protective clothing, rubber gloves, boots, and a face mask/goggles during mixing and spraying.
Crop Safety: Do not use on barley or oat crops. Ensure the wheat crop is healthy before application; avoid spraying if the crop is under stress from drought or waterlogging.
Handling Practices: Do not eat, drink, or smoke when using the product. Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after use.
Environmental Safety: This product is toxic to aquatic organisms. Do not contaminate water bodies, ponds, or irrigation ditches.
Storage:
Store the product in its original container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, moisture, food, and animal feed. Keep out of reach of children and uninformed persons.
