Chlorpyriphos 50% + Cypermethrin 5% EC:

Chlorpyriphos 50% + Cypermethrin 5% EC is a powerful, broad-spectrum combination insecticide formulated as an Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC). It combines an organophosphate (Chlorpyriphos) with a synthetic pyrethroid (Cypermethrin) to provide a synergistic "double-action" effect. This potent mixture offers a rapid "knockdown" of pests while ensuring long-lasting residual protection. It is highly versatile, acting as a contact, stomach, and vapor poison, making it capable of controlling a wide variety of biting, chewing, sucking, and boring pests in numerous crops.

Mode of Action:

This product functions through a dual mode of action that attacks the insect's nervous system from two angles:

  1. AChE Inhibition (Chlorpyriphos): It inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which is responsible for stopping nerve signals. This leads to the accumulation of acetylcholine, causing continuous nerve firing and paralysis.

  2. Sodium Channel Modulation (Cypermethrin): It disrupts the sodium channels in the nerve cells, causing hyperexcitation and rapid paralysis.

  3. Synergistic Effect: The combination ensures that pests are hit with an immediate shock (from Cypermethrin) and a sustained lethal effect (from Chlorpyriphos), preventing pest recovery and managing resistance effectively.

Primary Uses and Target Crops:

This insecticide is widely used in commercial crops and vegetables, particularly where heavy infestations of bollworms and borers are present.

Key target crops include:

  • Fiber Crops: Cotton

  • Cereals: Rice (Paddy), Maize

  • Vegetables: Brinjal (Eggplant), Cabbage, Cauliflower, Okra (Bhindi), Tomato

  • Commercial Crops: Sugarcane

  • Fruits: Mango, Citrus

Application and Dosage:

Chlorpyriphos 50% + Cypermethrin 5% EC is mixed with water and applied as a foliar spray.

The recommended dosage varies by crop and pest pressure:

  • Cotton: To control the Bollworm complex (American, Spotted, Pink) and sucking pests like Aphids and Whiteflies, use 300 to 400 ml per acre.

  • Rice (Paddy): For Stem Borer, Leaf Folder, and Hispa, use 250 to 350 ml per acre.

  • Brinjal: To control Shoot and Fruit Borer and Epilachna Beetle, use 300 to 400 ml per acre.

  • Cabbage/Cauliflower: For Diamondback Moth (DBM) and Aphids, use 300 ml per acre.

  • General Mixing Rate: A common mixing rate is 1.5 ml to 2 ml per liter of water. Ensure thorough coverage of the plant canopy.

Target Pests:

This combination is effective against a vast spectrum of pests, particularly complex infestations.

Commonly controlled pests include:

  • Bollworms (American, Spotted, Pink)

  • Stem Borers

  • Leaf Folders

  • Shoot and Fruit Borers

  • Diamondback Moth (DBM)

  • Aphids

  • Jassids

  • Thrips

  • Whiteflies

  • Bihar Hairy Caterpillar

  • Cutworms

Safety Precautions:

Strict adherence to safety precautions is essential. This product is toxic to mammals, bees, and aquatic life.

Key safety recommendations include:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear protective clothing, rubber gloves, boots, goggles, and a face mask during mixing and spraying. Avoid skin contact and inhalation of vapors.

  • Bee Safety: Do not apply when honeybees are actively foraging (during flowering).

  • Handling Practices: Do not eat, drink, or smoke when using the product. Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after use.

  • Environmental Safety: This product is highly toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. Do not apply directly to water bodies or clean equipment near streams or ponds.
