Emamectin Benzoate 1.9% EC:
Emamectin Benzoate 1.9% EC is a broad-spectrum insecticide and acaricide with an Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC) formulation. Derived from the soil bacterium Streptomyces avermitilis, it is a semi-synthetic derivative of abamectin. This insecticide is known for its effectiveness against a wide range of lepidopteran pests (caterpillars) and offers a unique mode of action, making it a valuable tool in integrated pest management (IPM) and resistance management programs. It is considered to have low toxicity to non-target organisms and is environmentally safe.
Mode of Action:
Emamectin Benzoate 1.9% EC acts primarily as a stomach poison but also has contact and systemic activity. Its mode of action is to intensify the effect of neurotransmitters, specifically gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and glutamate. This action inhibits muscle contraction, leading to a continuous flow of chlorine ions, which disrupts nerve signals. Pests that ingest or come into contact with the product quickly stop feeding, become paralyzed, and die within 2-4 days. It also possesses ovilarvicidal activity, killing larvae immediately after hatching.
Primary Uses and Target Crops:
This insecticide is used to control a variety of chewing pests in a wide range of crops.
Key target crops include:
Cotton
Rice/Paddy
Soybean
Chilli
Tomato
Chickpea
Various vegetables (Cabbage, Brinjal) and horticultural crops
Application and Dosage:
For optimal results, Emamectin Benzoate 1.9% EC should be applied when the first signs of pest incidence are observed. It should be applied as a foliar spray in sufficient water to ensure thorough coverage of the plant foliage. The product has a rainfastness of about 2 hours.
The recommended dosage varies depending on the crop and target pest:
Cotton: For bollworms, 232-580 ml per acre.
Chilli: For fruit borer and thrips, 150-375 ml per acre.
Paddy: For leaf folder and hispa, 425 ml per acre.
Soybean: For various caterpillars and beetles, 425 ml per acre.
General Application: 20-25 ml per 15 liters of water.
Target Pests:
Emamectin Benzoate 1.9% EC is highly effective against lepidopteran pests (moths and caterpillars), but also controls insects from other orders like Coleoptera, Thysanoptera, and mites.
Commonly controlled pests include:
Bollworms
Fruit Borers
Pod Borers
Diamondback Moth
Leaf Folder
Thrips
Tobacco Caterpillar
Safety Precautions:
As with all agrochemicals, strict adherence to safety precautions is essential.
Key safety recommendations include:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear protective clothing, rubber gloves, boots, and a face shield or dust mask during handling and application.
Avoid Contact and Inhalation: Avoid direct contact with skin, mouth, and eyes, and do not inhale the spray mist.
Handling Practices: Do not eat, drink, or smoke while spraying. Wash hands and face thoroughly with soap and water after handling.
Environmental Safety: This product is toxic to fish and aquatic organisms. Do not contaminate water bodies.
Storage:
Store the product in its original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. Keep it away from food, animal feed, and out of the reach of children and unauthorized persons.
In case of poisoning, seek immediate medical attention. Treatment should be symptomatic as there is no specific antidote.
