Imidacloprid 70% WG:
Imidacloprid 70% WG is a high-concentration, systemic insecticide belonging to the neonicotinoid group, formulated as Water Dispersible Granules (WG). It is specifically designed for the effective control of sucking pests at a very low dosage per acre. The granular formulation dissolves rapidly in water to form a suspension, ensuring dust-free handling and uniform coverage. It provides long-lasting protection against pests like hoppers, aphids, and thrips, and is also known to have a "phytotonic" effect, enhancing plant greenness and vigor.
Mode of Action:
Imidacloprid 70% WG functions through systemic, contact, and stomach action.
Nerve Receptor Agonist: It targets the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) in the insect's central nervous system.
Signal Disruption: By mimicking the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, it binds to these receptors and disrupts the transmission of nerve impulses.
Paralysis: This causes continuous excitation and overstimulation of the nervous system, leading to paralysis, cessation of feeding, and the eventual death of the pest. Its strong systemic action allows it to be absorbed by the roots and leaves, protecting the entire plant.
Primary Uses and Target Crops:
This insecticide is a top choice for managing sucking pests in fiber crops, cereals, and vegetables.
Key target crops include:
Fiber Crops: Cotton
Cereals: Rice (Paddy)
Vegetables: Okra (Bhindi), Cucumber, Tomato, Brinjal
Fruits: Mango, Citrus, Grapes
Application and Dosage:
Imidacloprid 70% WG is mixed with water and applied as a foliar spray. Because it is highly concentrated, precise dosage is critical.
The recommended dosage varies by crop:
Cotton: To control Jassids, Aphids, Thrips, and Whiteflies, use 12 to 14 grams per acre (Standard dose) up to 30 grams per acre (for heavy infestation).
Rice (Paddy): For Brown Plant Hopper (BPH) and White Backed Plant Hopper (WBPH), use 12 to 14 grams per acre.
Okra & Cucumber: To control Jassids and Aphids, use 12 to 14 grams per acre.
General Mixing Rate: Dissolve the granules in a small quantity of water first. For a 15-liter pump, use approximately 1 to 1.5 grams. Ensure thorough coverage of the foliage.
Target Pests:
This insecticide is highly specialized for sap-sucking insects.
Commonly controlled pests include:
Brown Plant Hopper (BPH)
White Backed Plant Hopper (WBPH)
Green Leaf Hopper (GLH)
Jassids
Aphids
Thrips
Whiteflies
Safety Precautions:
Strict adherence to safety precautions is essential. Imidacloprid is highly toxic to honeybees.
Key safety recommendations include:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear protective clothing, rubber gloves, boots, and a face mask/goggles during mixing and spraying.
Bee Safety: Do not apply during the active flowering stage or when honeybees are foraging, as neonicotinoids are severely toxic to pollinators.
Handling Practices: Do not eat, drink, or smoke when using the product. Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after use.
Environmental Safety: Do not contaminate water bodies, ponds, or irrigation ditches.
Storage:
Store the product in its original container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, moisture, food, and animal feed. Keep out of reach of children and uninformed persons.
