Propiconazole 25% EC:
Propiconazole 25% EC is a broad-spectrum systemic fungicide with an Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC) formulation. It belongs to the triazole group of fungicides and is widely used in agriculture for the effective control of a wide range of fungal diseases. It offers both preventive and curative action, making it a versatile tool for disease management in various crops.
Mode of Action:
Propiconazole 25% EC functions as a Demethylation Inhibitor (DMI) fungicide. It is absorbed by the plant's leaves, stems, and roots and then transported upwards throughout the plant via the xylem. The fungicide works by inhibiting the biosynthesis of ergosterol, a critical component of fungal cell membranes. This disruption of the cell membrane leads to the suppression of fungal growth and ultimately the death of the pathogen. This systemic action ensures that the active ingredient is well-distributed within the plant tissues, providing long-lasting protection and preventing it from being washed off by rain.
Primary Uses and Target Crops:
This fungicide is used to control a broad spectrum of diseases in a variety of crops.
Key target crops include:
Wheat
Rice/Paddy
Groundnut
Soybean
Tea
Cotton
Fruits like bananas and apples
Vegetables
Application and Dosage:
Propiconazole 25% EC is typically applied as a foliar spray. For best results, it should be applied when the disease is in its early stages.
The general dosage recommendation is approximately 200 ml per acre. This can be mixed with water at a rate of 1 ml per liter of water. However, the exact dosage can vary depending on the crop, disease severity, and local agricultural recommendations. For instance, in tea, the dosage may range from 50-100 ml per acre. It's recommended to repeat the spray at an interval of 14 to 21 days, depending on the intensity of the disease.
Target Diseases:
Propiconazole 25% EC is highly effective against a wide range of fungal diseases caused by Ascomycetes, Basidiomycetes, and Deuteromycetes.
Commonly controlled diseases include:
Rusts: Leaf Rust, Stem Rust, and Stripe Rust
Leaf Spots: Early and Late Leaf Spot, Tikka Disease
Blights: Sheath Blight, Early Blight, Late Blight, Blister Blight
Bunis: Karnal Bunt
Powdery Mildew
