Thifluzamide 24% SC:
Thifluzamide 24% SC is a modern, systemic fungicide formulated as a Suspension Concentrate (SC). Belonging to the carboxanilide chemical family, it is widely recognized as a specialist solution for the control of Rhizoctonia species, particularly Sheath Blight in Rice (Paddy). It exhibits strong preventive as well as curative properties. The fungicide is rapidly absorbed by the plant leaves and roots and is translocated systemically, providing long-lasting protection even under high disease pressure. It is also known for its rain-fastness and ability to improve the quality and glossiness of the grain.
Mode of Action:
Thifluzamide 24% SC acts as a Succinate Dehydrogenase Inhibitor (SDHI).
Energy Blockage: It targets the fungal mitochondria by inhibiting the succinate dehydrogenase enzyme in the Krebs cycle (respiratory chain).
Respiration Inhibition: By blocking this specific enzyme, it effectively shuts down the energy production (ATP) within the fungal cells.
Growth Stoppage: This inhibition affects the fungus at various stages, preventing spore germination, germ tube elongation, and mycelial growth, leading to the collapse of the infection.
Primary Uses and Target Crops:
This fungicide is primarily known as the "Gold Standard" for treating Sheath Blight in Rice, but it is also effective in other crops.
Key target crops include:
Cereals: Rice (Paddy)
Tubers: Potato
Vegetables: Tomato
Others: Turfgrass, Maize
Application and Dosage:
Thifluzamide 24% SC is mixed with water and applied as a foliar spray. For potatoes, it can be used as a seed treatment or soil drench.
The recommended dosage varies by crop:
Rice (Paddy): To control Sheath Blight (Rhizoctonia solani), use 150 ml per acre.
Timing: Apply at the first sign of disease appearance or during the tillering to booting stage.
Potato: For Black Scurf (Rhizoctonia solani), use 3 ml per 10 kg of seeds (seed treatment) or apply as a soil drench during planting.
Tomato: For Early Blight, use 150 to 200 ml per acre.
General Mixing Rate: A common mixing rate for foliar spray is 0.75 ml to 1 ml per liter of water. Ensure uniform coverage of the crop canopy.
Target Diseases:
This fungicide is highly specific and effective against Rhizoctonia and Alternaria species.
Commonly controlled diseases include:
Sheath Blight (Rice - Major target)
Black Scurf (Potato)
Early Blight (Tomato)
Root Rot
Stem Rot
Safety Precautions:
Strict adherence to safety precautions is essential.
Key safety recommendations include:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear protective clothing, chemical-resistant gloves, boots, and a face mask/goggles during mixing and spraying.
Avoid Contact: Avoid inhalation of spray mist and contact with skin and eyes. Wash splashes immediately with soap and water.
Handling Practices: Do not eat, drink, or smoke when using the product. Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly after use.
Environmental Safety: This product is toxic to fish and aquatic organisms. Do not apply directly to water bodies (unless managing rice field levels as per label) or clean equipment near streams.
Storage:
Store the product in its original container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, moisture, food, and animal feed. Keep out of reach of children and uninformed persons.
