Pretilachlor 37% EW:

Pretilachlor 37% EW is a selective, pre-emergence herbicide formulated as an Emulsion, Oil in Water (EW). It is widely utilized in agriculture, particularly in rice cultivation, for the effective control of a broad spectrum of weeds. This formulation plays a crucial role in integrated weed management by targeting weeds before they can compete with crops for essential resources like nutrients, sunlight, and water.

Mode of Action:

Pretilachlor belongs to the chloroacetamide group of herbicides. Its primary mode of action is the inhibition of very long-chain fatty acid synthesis in susceptible weeds. The herbicide is absorbed by the germinating shoots and roots of the weeds. By blocking the production of these essential fatty acids, Pretilachlor disrupts cell division and growth, ultimately leading to the death of the weed seedlings before or shortly after they emerge from the soil.

Primary Uses and Target Crops:

Pretilachlor 37% EW is predominantly used in transplanted rice to control annual grasses, sedges, and broadleaf weeds. While it is considered a specialist for paddy crops, its effectiveness in other crops should be determined by agricultural experts.

Application and Dosage:

For optimal results, Pretilachlor 37% EW should be applied as a pre-emergence herbicide, typically within 0-5 days after transplanting the rice seedlings. It is crucial to apply it before the weeds emerge. The recommended application involves mixing the herbicide with water and spraying it uniformly on the soil surface. It is advised to avoid flooding the field for up to 24 hours after application. The typical dosage is around 600-750 ml per acre.

Target Weeds:

Pretilachlor 37% EW is effective against a wide range of weeds, including:

  • Echinochloa colonum (Jungle Rice)

  • Echinochloa crusgalli (Barnyard Grass)

  • Cyperus difformis (Smallflower Umbrella Sedge)

  • Cyperus iria (Rice Flatsedge)

  • Fimbristylis miliacea

  • Eclipta alba (False Daisy)

  • Ludwigia parviflora (Water Primrose)

  • Monochoria vaginalis

Safety Precautions:

As with all agrochemicals, proper handling and safety measures are essential when using Pretilachlor 37% EW. The product can be harmful if inhaled or swallowed and may cause irritation to the eyes, nose, throat, and skin.

Key safety recommendations include:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear protective clothing, including safety glasses or goggles, rubber gloves, long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and shoes with socks during handling and application.

  • Avoid Inhalation: Prevent inhaling the spray mist.

  • Avoid Contact: Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact, wash the affected area immediately with plenty of soap and water. If eyes are contaminated, flush with clean water for several minutes.

  • Handling Practices: Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling the product. Wash hands and face thoroughly with soap and water after handling and before eating, drinking, or smoking.

Storage:

Store in its original, closed container in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated area, away from children, animals, food, and animal feed.

In case of poisoning, symptoms may include non-specific signs such as ataxia, salivation, lacrimation, and decreased breathing. It is crucial to seek medical attention immediately. There is no specific antidote, and treatment is symptomatic.
