Mono-Ammonium Phosphate (12:61:0)

Available Packing:

Mono-Ammonium Phosphate (12:61:0):

Mono-Ammonium Phosphate (12:61:0), commonly known as MAP, is a fully water-soluble, high-purity complex fertilizer. It contains 12% Nitrogen in ammoniacal form and 61% Phosphorus (P₂O₅), making it the highest phosphorus-containing solid fertilizer available. It is a free-flowing, crystalline powder that dissolves quickly and completely in water. It is specifically designed to provide a rapid boost of phosphorus during critical growth stages, such as root establishment and flowering. Its low pH (acidic nature) helps prevent the clogging of drip irrigation lines and improves the availability of micronutrients in the soil.

Mode of Action:

MAP 12:61:0 works through rapid systemic absorption and chemical interaction in the root zone.

  1. Systemic Uptake: Being 100% water-soluble, the nutrients are immediately available to the plant. The ammoniacal nitrogen facilitates the rapid uptake of phosphorus by the roots.

  2. Root Zone Acidification: The ammonium ions in the fertilizer lower the pH in the root zone (rhizosphere). This acidification helps unlock fixed phosphorus and micronutrients already present in the soil, making them available to the plant.

  3. Energy Transfer: The high phosphorus content is vital for photosynthesis, energy transfer (ATP production), and cell division, driving robust root growth and reproductive development.

Primary Uses and Target Crops:

This fertilizer is used extensively to boost root development in seedlings and to stimulate flowering and fruit setting in a wide variety of crops.

Key target crops include:

  • Fruits: Pomegranate, Grapes, Banana, Papaya, Orange, Apple, Mango, Watermelon

  • Vegetables: Tomato, Potato, Onion, Chili, Capsicum, Brinjal/Eggplant, Cucumber

  • Flowers: Roses, Marigolds, Gerbera, Carnations

  • Field Crops: Cotton, Sugarcane, Pulses, Oilseeds

Application and Dosage:

Mono-Ammonium Phosphate 12:61:0 is suitable for foliar spray and fertigation (drip irrigation).

The recommended dosage varies depending on the crop stage:

  • Foliar Spray: Dissolve 5 to 8 grams per liter of water. Spray during the pre-flowering and flowering stages to reduce flower drop and improve fruit setting.

  • Fertigation (Drip): Apply 3 to 5 kg per acre. This is highly recommended during the initial root development stage (post-transplanting) and again before flowering.

  • Compatibility: It is compatible with most pesticides and fertilizers but must NOT be mixed with Calcium or Magnesium fertilizers (like Calcium Nitrate), as this will cause precipitation and clog nozzles.

Target Benefits:

Unlike pesticides that target pests, this product targets specific plant growth stages and deficiencies.

Key benefits include:

  • Rapid Root Development: Essential for establishing new seedlings and transplants.

  • Enhanced Flowering: Induces profuse flowering and prevents flower abortion.

  • Fruit Setting: Improves fruit set and quality.

  • Tuber Development: Increases the size and number of tubers in crops like potato.

  • Drought Resistance: Strong root systems improve the plant's ability to withstand dry spells.

Safety Precautions:

While not a toxic pesticide, standard safety practices for chemical fertilizers should be followed.

Key safety recommendations include:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear gloves and goggles when handling the concentrated powder to avoid skin and eye irritation.

  • Mixing Safety: Always dissolve the powder completely before adding other chemicals. Avoid mixing with calcium-based fertilizers.

  • Handling Practices: Wash hands thoroughly after use. Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling the product.

  • Environmental Safety: Avoid overuse to prevent nutrient runoff into water bodies, which can cause algal blooms.

Storage:

Store the product in its original container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place. The product is hygroscopic (absorbs moisture), so the bag must be kept tightly sealed when not in use to prevent caking. Keep away from direct sunlight, food, and animal feed.
