Thiamethoxam 30% FS:

Thiamethoxam 30% FS is a broad-spectrum, systemic insecticide formulated as a Flowable Concentrate for Seed Treatment (FS). Belonging to the neonicotinoid group, it is specifically designed to protect crops during their most critical early stages of development. By treating the seeds before sowing, it provides a protective shield against soil-dwelling and early-season sucking pests. This formulation ensures better germination, vigorous root development, and uniform crop stand, while minimizing the need for early foliar sprays.

Mode of Action:

Thiamethoxam 30% FS functions through systemic and stomach action.

  1. Nerve Receptor Agonist: It acts by binding to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) in the insect's central nervous system.

  2. Systemic Translocation: Upon seed germination, the active ingredient is rapidly absorbed by the roots and translocated acropetally (upwards) through the xylem to the cotyledons, stems, and leaves.

  3. Paralysis: When pests attempt to feed on the seedling or roots, the chemical disrupts their nerve transmission, causing continuous excitation, paralysis, and death. This provides protection for 30 to 45 days after sowing.

Primary Uses and Target Crops:

This insecticide is exclusively recommended for Seed Treatment in a variety of field crops to manage early-season pest pressure.

Key target crops include:

  • Fiber Crops: Cotton

  • Cereals: Wheat, Maize, Sorghum, Rice (Paddy)

  • Legumes/Oilseeds: Soybean, Sunflower, Groundnut

  • Vegetables: Chili, Okra (Bhindi)

Application and Dosage:

Thiamethoxam 30% FS is applied as a slurry to seeds before sowing.

The recommended dosage varies by crop:

  • Cotton: To control Aphids, Whiteflies, Jassids, and Thrips, use 10 ml per kg of seeds.

  • Wheat: For Termite control, use 3.3 ml per kg of seeds.

  • Soybean: For Stem Fly control, use 10 ml per kg of seeds.

  • Maize & Sorghum: For Shoot Fly control, use 8 to 10 ml per kg of seeds.

  • Chili: For Thrips, use 7 ml per kg of seeds.

  • Okra (Bhindi): For Jassids, use 5.7 ml per kg of seeds.

  • Sunflower: For Jassids and Thrips, use 10 ml per kg of seeds.

  • Method: Mix the required quantity of insecticide with a small amount of water (approx. 10-20 ml per kg seed) to make a slurry. Coat the seeds uniformly by mixing in a plastic bag or drum. Shade-dry the treated seeds for 20–30 minutes before sowing.

Target Pests:

This formulation targets pests that attack young seedlings and roots.

Commonly controlled pests include:

  • Shoot Fly (Maize, Sorghum)

  • Stem Fly (Soybean)

  • Termites (Wheat, Groundnut)

  • Aphids

  • Jassids

  • Whiteflies

  • Thrips

  • White Grubs (Suppression)

  • Whorl Maggot (Rice)

Safety Precautions:

Strict adherence to safety precautions is essential.

Key safety recommendations include:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear rubber gloves, a face mask, and protective clothing while treating seeds. Do not handle treated seeds with bare hands.

  • Handling Treated Seeds: Do not use treated seeds for food, feed, or oil extraction. Bags containing treated seeds should be clearly labeled "Poison."

  • Bee Safety: Neonicotinoids are toxic to bees. Ensure treated seeds are properly covered with soil to prevent exposure to pollinators or birds.

  • Handling Practices: Do not eat, drink, or smoke when using the product. Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling.

  • Environmental Safety: Do not contaminate water bodies or clean equipment near streams.

Storage:

Store the product in its original container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, moisture, food, and animal feed. Keep out of reach of children and uninformed persons.
